Driving west about 40 miles from Lafayette on Interstate Highway I-10, we arrive at Crowley, in the heart of Cajun Country and Acadiana. It has a long history dating back to its founding in 1886.
The parish seat of Acadia Parish, the City of Crowley is located near the Louisiana communities of Scott, Duson, Rayne, Mermentau, Jennings, Kaplan, Abbeville, Church Point, Eunice, and Welsh.
Crowley is known at the "Rice Capital of America", and for the annual International Rice Festival. Crowley is the center of a large area of South Louisiana engaged in rice farming, harvesting and milling.
The rice fields are also used for crawfish farming, a source of that Cajun delicacy available in many Crowley and Acadiana restaurants in the form of Crawfish Gumbo, Crawfish Etouffee, Crawfish Bisque, Crawfish Pie and Fried Crawfish, and more!
