Covington is located on Interstate Highway I-12 and U.S. Highway 190, on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.

Founded in 1813, Covington is the parish seat of St. Tammany Parish and has a population of about 9,000 residents. It is located at a fork of the Bogue Falaya and the Tchefuncte River.

Nearby communities include Madisonville, Mandeville, Hammond, Lacombe, Ponchatoula, Slidell, Folsum, Abita Springs, and of course New Orleans.

Close by is historic, and popular, Fontainbleu State Park.
